Meet the Author

Hello. My name is Christian Finn.

Before you spend any more time looking around, I'd like to tell you more about myself. Then, you can decide if I'm qualified to help you.

I hold a masters degree with distinction in exercise science. I've also lectured at a number of universities and private training organizations around the United Kingdom on fitness training, weight loss and the effective use of nutritional supplements.

The picture on the left (that's me in the green top) was taken when I was lecturing for Premier Training, a company considered by many as the leading provider of training to exercise professionals in the United Kingdom.

If you live in the UK, you might have seen me in the BBC TV series Body Hits or All About Men on Bravo TV.

The short (120 seconds) video clip above is an extract from the BBC TV documentary series Body Hits, where I had just 4 weeks to whip London's worst hockey team into shape!

I write extensively on the subject. You'll find my articles published in numerous magazines, leading industry journals and websites worldwide, including Men's Health, Men's Health Muscle, Fit Pro (April/May 2001), CAM magazine (February 2003), Image (January 1997), Zest (March 2004), and Body Life magazine (March/April 1997). You might have seen me featured in the July 2004 issue of Muscle & Fitness (UK edition).

My research on high-intensity intermittent training has also been published in the online journal Sport Science (March 2001). Click here for more details about the magazine articles I've written.

A small study I authored on the nutritional supplement HMB has also been published in the Journal of Sports Sciences, and presented at the Annual Conference of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences held at Liverpool John Moores University in August 2000.

You'll also find my work in the book Bodybuilding 201, the latest book by Robert Wolff, Ph.D. Robert Wolff lectures through the world on fitness, motivation, and high-level success principles.

Robert has worked with such fitness legends as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Evander Holyfield, Lou Ferrigno, and Rachel McLish.

As a certified personal trainer, I've spent more than a decade working with people of all shapes and sizes, as well as exercising regularly myself for over 15 years.

I’ve lost count of the long hours and late nights spent reviewing the latest scientific research in the areas of diet and exercise.

You might think that with all this knowledge, I've always been in shape.

But I haven't.

Even though I've been working in the fitness industry for over a decade — and exercising regularly for almost 15 years — I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it wasn't until I was 27 years old that I finally got my act together.

Of course, I had made some progress by then. But it was far from impressive. It wasn't until I started setting goals and actually using the knowledge I had (I know that sounds like a bit of a cliché) that I started to see some results.

To give myself an extra kick in the ass, I also entered the Body-for-LIFE contest (the one where you send in before-and-after photographs).

To my surprise, I was the first ever winner of the Outstanding Male Achievement award in the UK. You can click here to see a copy of the letter I received.

If and when I give you advice, you can be sure I'll be speaking from experience.

There's nothing I've ever written about, be it a food supplement, diet or exercise routine, that I haven't used myself.

When I first started this site, it was meant to serve as an unbiased and independent source of practical information and advice for a small group of my friends and clients. It's grown quickly, mainly by word-of-mouth (we've never spent any money on advertising).

The growing number of visitors to this site (we serve around 175,000 unique visitors — around 2 million hits — per month) appreciate the fact that we're free from the influence of any supplement company or "secret" training and diet system.

After more than seven years online, we're proud to remain completely independent. Instead, the site is funded entirely by private subscribers to the Members-Only Area, search results from Google, and affiliate payments from several high-quality books featured in the newsletter.

I just wish that somebody else had done it before.

It's so easy to feel overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice about how to lose weight, build more muscle or protect your health. Let's face it — the sheer volume of information is literally overwhelming. And many of the "experts" disagree.

Most people have been duped into believing that the only way to get the body they want is to spend hours in the gym, live like a monk, use hundreds of dollars worth of food supplements AND follow a low-fat diet.

And none of it is true!

I know what it's like to spend hours in the gym, waste a fortune on food supplements and see little or nothing in the way of results. I understand how it feels to want to quit the whole exercise and diet "thing" because nothing seems to be working.

It's actually a lot easier than some people have led you to believe.

When you start feeding your body the right way, it changes. And it really doesn't take that long. I find that many people are only three to six months away from building their best body. I've seen it happen plenty of times.

Although very few of the ideas you'll read about on this site are my own, the articles are fresh, original material written by me and my research staff. They're a patchwork of some of the best information, advice and facts from the world's top experts, presented to you in a way that you can understand and act on. I also offer subscribers with a Mentor Membership help in researching specific questions.

This site employs a small (but dedicated) team of exercise and nutrition professionals. They regularly monitor the most important specialist journals, magazines and websites in the field of exercise and nutrition science.

To ensure you're provided with the most relevant and up-to-date information, we'll regularly update articles based on solid, reliable new data and research. Outdated pages are periodically removed or combined with other sections of the site to make for easier reading.

We'll often choose not to publish an article if significant doubt remains about the findings. When we decide to publish, we work hard to make sure that the statements made are supported by solid evidence. Balance and objectivity are our goals.

For some, keeping fit is simple. Just eat a few balanced meals and take regular exercise, right? Golf is also simple: you just use a stick to hit the white ball into the hole. But it can take a lifetime to master. Health and fitness is the same. New theories about diet and exercise appear every week, and experts continue to argue about the "best way" to do things.

The problem with most health and fitness "news" is that it's nothing more than "noise." Newspaper headlines, magazine articles and TV babble about the latest diet, exercise gimmick or fitness fad isn't just useless. It's actually worse than useless, because it distracts you from the things that are really important and misleads people into thinking they know something.

This mass of confusing and conflicting information leaves many people so confused about what to eat and how to exercise that they end up doing nothing.

To keep you informed about what really counts, we sift through the latest research and consumer reports on your behalf. You simply relax and pick the information up on the Internet.

That said, it's only fair to point out that the site is definitely not for everyone. I can't help you do anything other than learn what to do. It's only when you apply the information that you'll get the results you want. You need to supply the desire. The fact is that many people simply can't be bothered.

If you're the kind of person who wants someone else to do all the work, subscribing to the newsletter will simply be a waste of your time and mine.

I won't tell you that you can get in shape by eating as much food as you want, or exercising for just "8 minutes in the morning." And I won't promise a magic bullet — as it seems every book on nutrition and exercise seems to do these days — because there isn't one.

Getting in shape requires effort and self discipline. You will need to do things differently than you do now. Trying the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result is one of the best ways to create frustration and disappointment in your life.

Magazines, books and exercise devices always seem to offer "too-good-to-be-true" results. In truth, they're promising what can't be delivered. And I'm not going to do that.

Frankly, after several years of giving out advice on this site, I've found that 95% who visit will never make any good use of it.

You may be the exception.

If you are, you will see dramatic results. You'll feel a genuine sense of excitement when you look in the mirror and see a little more muscle here, or a little less fat there.

Your clothes will fit better in all the right places. You'll be leaner. You'll feel more confident. More attractive.

Before you know it, everyone around you will take notice. They will compliment you.

Personally, I feel as passionate about health and fitness as I did when I entered the field over 10 years ago. I'm actually writing this at 4:45 am, because I can't wait to get started in the morning.

If you're motivated, and prepared to act on what you learn, I am sure I can help you get the results you're looking for. Of course, it won't happen instantly. But, if you stick with me, I'm confident you'll succeed.

If you'd like me to send you a copy of the newsletter so you can see for yourself if you like it, please enter your name and e-mail address below.
